Why come on a Zanzibar Photography Tour?

Very simple, why not?

Our tour has been designed to show you the real Zanzibar and allow you to experience the authentic Zanzibar experience.
We avoid the main tourist destinations, and show you life in the villages, the countryside, and the city. We will visit the quiet beaches and observe the local children, fisherman and daily life of the locals.
We will have a local driver/guide with us to show us to the best spots and help us talk to the locals. He will suggest the best local restaurants and suggest a daily itinerary based on the ocean tides.

We are aware this is also a holiday, and will also include a few spots for sunbathing, swimming and relaxing lunches for you too.

The Zanzibar Photography Tour includes the following:

  • Airport transfers from Zanzibar airport to your hotel for the start of your tour and return for your departure
  • 5 days of photography with local guides where required and assistance of your photographic guide, Gwen Courtman
  • 6 nights accommodation in beach front hotels or semi private villas. The accommodation is in the area of Michamwi and Pingwi and is based on two people sharing a twin room.
  • 1 night accommodation in Stone Town.
  • 7 breakfasts
  • Minibus, taxi or coach transport during the tour for photography excursions
  • Boat transport for photography excursions where required.

Day 1: Photographing the tides

An easy day to help you rest after your journey, the day will be spent locally photographing the tides, waves, fishermen, rock pools, beaches, and daily life on Zanzibar. Early evening, we will take a short road trip to see the sun go down over the Indian ocean, where you can photograph whilst drinking a nice sundowner chilled drink.

Day 2: Sunrise, Monkeys and Paje Beach

Early morning call for sunrise photographs on the nearby beach. After breakfast, we will travel to the Jozani Forrest Reserve to see the Red Cobus monkeys roaming freely around the forest, followed by a visit to the nearby mangroves.

A relaxing lunch by the beach of Paje, with its white sand beach, with a chance for a swim and an afternoon of relaxing, or more photos for those feeling that they want to keep on taking more photos.

We will head back to the hotel and local beach to photograph the world-famous Rock Restaurant at night, located in the Indian Ocean. (Depending on tides this may be done on another evening)

Day 3: Kisimkaze, Fisherman’s bay and local life

We will head to the South of Zanzibar today to Kisimkaze to observe the coming and goings of the fishermen on the traditional Dhow boats. We will head to a small secluded bay to photograph the rock formations, the ocean and the Dhow boats, coming and going with the daily catch.  Lunch with a view today, with a chance to catch some rays. We will make a stop at a traditional Zanzibar village where time has stood still, and take in the local life.

Day 4: Free day

Today is a free day, with an option to have an afternoon boat trip to the mangroves. You can chill by the pool or beach, or revisit somewhere that you have seen that you want to return too, totally up to you.

Day 5

This morning we head to a spice farm, to learn about, taste and photograph the local Island’s spices. We will be taken round the farm by a local guide. And have chance to buy spices at the end of the tour. Heading back to the hotel we will stop for lunch by the beach, and take a walk through a village where time seems to have stood still. You can choose whether to sunbathe and relax, or take photos along the beach.

Day 6: Stone Town

This morning we have a late start and head to Stonetown, the island’s capital. We will be taken around the city by a local guide, and then have free time to explore and photograph on you own.

This is a great chance to souvenir shop before the tour ends. In the evening, we will visit the night market to sample some local cuisine and photograph the market life. We will stay overnight in Stonetown to make the airport transfers the next day much shorter.
